York is a wonderful city to explore and a difficult one to drive a motorhome through. Its narrow medieval streets, busy one-way systems and tight car parks were never designed for a 7-metre van.

Wagtail Park gives you a quiet base on the edge of the city instead. Our motorhome pitches in York sit in a peaceful 10-acre park in Huntington, just off the outer ring road and 1.5 miles from Monks Cross Park & Ride. Set up on firm hardstanding, plug in, and see York without ever steering your van into the city centre.

Hardstanding Motorhome Pitches with Electric

Motorhomes need a firm, level base, especially after rain. Our hardstanding pitches keep your wheels out of soft ground, so you can arrive, level up and leave without worrying about getting stuck.

16-Amp Hook-Up & Reinforced Pitches

Each pitch is around 80m², with plenty of room for a large motorhome or campervan, an awning and outdoor seating. The hardstanding surface is built for the weight of larger vans, and the internal roads leave space to manoeuvre onto your pitch.

16-amp electric hook-up runs across the touring areas, enough to power heating, a fridge and charging without tripping the supply. Whether you travel in a compact campervan or a 7-metre coachbuilt, you will have space to set up properly. That makes us a practical choice among campervan sites near York.

Motorhome Service Facilities

Everything you need to service your van is on site, so there is no need to hunt for a dump station on the way home.

  • Fresh water refill: top up your onboard tank before you leave
  • Grey water disposal: empty waste water at a dedicated point
  • Chemical disposal point: easy to reach from the touring pitches
  • Heated wet rooms: private showers and toilets if you prefer to save your onboard tanks

It also makes Wagtail Park a sensible motorhome stopover in Yorkshire if you are heading to the coast or the Moors and need a night to refill and recharge.

Leave the Van and Take the Bus into York

This is the reason many motorhomers choose us. Monks Cross Park & Ride is just 1.5 miles from our entrance, so you can see the city without driving your van into it.

Leave your motorhome set up on its pitch, with the awning out and the hook-up connected. The bus runs from Monks Cross into the centre of York, dropping you within walking distance of York Minster, the Shambles and the city's museums.

There is no searching for a space big enough for your van, no city-centre parking charges and no narrow streets to navigate. Monks Cross and the neighbouring Vangarde Shopping Park also have supermarkets and shops for restocking.

Getting to the Park & Ride: if you tow a car, carry bikes or travel with a second vehicle, Monks Cross is about a three-minute drive. If your motorhome is your only vehicle, please ask us before you arrive for the best way into York.

City of York Council lists dedicated motorhome parking at its Askham Bar, Grimston Bar, Rawcliffe Bar and Designer Outlet Park & Ride sites, and overnight parking is not permitted at any Park & Ride site. Sources: City of York Council, First York.
